Where to Dance Salsa & Bachata in Amsterdam

Amsterdam has one of the most active Latin dance scenes in Northern Europe — a genuine mix of salsa, bachata, kizomba, and zouk running every night of the week. The crowd is highly international: Dutch locals, expats, and visiting European dancers all share the floor freely. The city's liberal, relaxed culture carries into the dance scene — beginners are welcomed, workshops are often included in the entry price, and the English you'll need is zero. The Netherlands also punches well above its weight in festivals, with multiple international bachata and kizomba congresses hosted in Amsterdam and nearby cities.

Rembrandtplein & Leidseplein

the easiest entry point

Amsterdam's two main nightlife squares — Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein — are a 10-minute walk apart and between them host most of the city's midweek Latin socials. Both are centrally located, walkable from almost any hotel, and well-connected by tram. This is where you start if it's your first night in the city.

SalsaBachataZouk

🕐 Mon · 9 PM – midnight💳 Free or low entry

A warm, casual bar social organised by Club22. Good beginner entry point during the week — smaller floor, community atmosphere, less intimidating than the dedicated dance clubs.

Amsterdam Noord

the serious dancer's venue

Cross the IJ river on the free 24/7 GVB ferry behind Central Station and you reach Club Mystique — Amsterdam's most dedicated social dance venue. The 5-minute ferry crossing keeps the crowd intentional: people who make the trip are there to dance. Two rooms (salsa and bachata) on a proper wooden dancefloor, with instructors and visiting international dancers in the mix most Fridays.

SalsaBachata
🕐 Fri · 9 PM – 3 AM💳 €5 · Free parking

Two separate rooms keep salsa and bachata dancers on their respective floors. Regularly attracts Dutch and international instructors and performers. 350-person capacity — the scene's flagship venue. Take the free IJ ferry from behind Central Station, then a short walk.

Amsterdam Oost

multi-style, community-first

Amsterdam Oost has a different feel — more local, less touristy, and home to Odessa Latin Playground, the city's most unusual social dance event. Held in a large community space near Muiderpoort, it's alcohol-and-drug-free, runs seven separate style areas, and draws a crowd that's there for the dancing rather than the nightlife.

  • 🚎Since 2022, all GVB trams, buses, and metro accept Visa and Mastercard contactless cards directly — no need for a special OV-chipkaart. €3.40 per journey with 60-minute transfers.
  • 🎟️ Check salsavida.com/guides/netherlands/amsterdam/socials and dan.app for up-to-date weekly schedules — Amsterdam has a lot of events and they shift seasonally.
